A better tomorrow starts today.

For Professionals

Welcome to Autism in Action! Co-founders, Dr. Beverly Braman and Dr. Susan Catlett truly appreciate your visit to their site today. Whether you are a teacher, psychologist, counselor, speech pathologist, occupational therapist, paraeducator, or administrator who works with learners on the autism spectrum, it is hoped that you will find Autism in Action a valuable resource you can turn to time and again for current and reliable information.

One of the goals of Autism in Action is to support professionals in their efforts to provide quality learning opportunities for individuals on the autism spectrum. With more than 40 years of combined experience working with learners that have autism, Dr. Braman and Dr. Catlett want to share with you practical information for teaching important skills and behaviors using research based procedures. Understanding that it takes time to build expertise in any area of professional development, Autism in Action has created a series of Autism "How-To" Teaching Programs to help "fill in the gap". Each "How-To" is designed to teach a specific readiness, behavioral, communication, self-care, or social skill using the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA). Using a systematic step-by-step approach, each "How-To" Teaching Program describes exactly what to say, and what to do during instruction. "Helpful Hints" are provided for purposes of tweaking and individualizing; and each "How-To" comes complete with Data Collection Forms to easily track progress. Please feel free to view a Sample "How-To" Teaching Program for further information. To review the entire collection of "How-To" Teaching Programs, please proceed to Our Products. If you have the need for a teaching program not listed, please take a moment to leave us a note at "How-To" Requests as the product line is continually being expanded.

As you are likely aware, the use of applied behavior analysis (ABA) with learners that have autism has gained a significant amount of attention in recent years. With educators being held to the standard of using research based practices, the need for developing ABA expertise has become paramount to the provision of quality programming in schools everywhere. In an effort to assist teachers, paraeducators, and other school service providers in developing their ABA skill set, Dr. Braman and Dr. Catlett have written the Autism and ABA: A "How-To" Handbook For Teachers and offer a four day training on the topic. This practical resource translates the science of ABA into an instructional format realistic for everyday use in the classroom setting. With descriptions of how to implement ABA procedures, common errors and solutions for problem solving during implementation, quick reference guides, and real-life examples, the Autism and ABA: A "How-To" Handbook For Teachers is a must have for anyone involved with teaching learners on the autism spectrum.

Understanding the significant time demands placed upon teachers everywhere, Autism in Action has also developed a time-saving resource for writing measurable IEPs. Containing more than 200 IEP objectives, the Instructional Objectives Handbook targets specific readiness, behavioral, communication, self-care, and social skills important for learners on the autism spectrum. In addition to the target skill, each objective specifies the conditions for performance and has fill-in criteria for easy individualization. Written across a variety of learning levels, every objective identifies exactly what is being measured for establishing appropriate data collection methods. Further, the convenient CD format allows you to simply copy and paste into your existing IEP software.

Again thank you for visiting Autism in Action. Dr. Braman and Dr. Catlett hope that you will continue to find their site a useful source of information for teaching learners on the autism spectrum. They understand your work is challenging and applaud your efforts for helping create a learning environment where "a better tomorrow starts today" for individuals with autism.
